Rafferty’s have recently completed the installation of new aircraft warning lights on a 89m high steel chimney located directly opposite London City Airport.
Our team of steeplejacks are due to complete the installation of new aircraft warning lights on the sites other chimney over the upcoming weeks.
Earlier in the year Rafferty Steeplejacks were awarded a contract by the NHS to dismantle the 52m high redundant multi flue steel chimney at Royal Stoke University Hospital. Throughout our history the company has been responsible for drastically changing the local skyline and the successful completion of this contract saw the skyline of Stoke-on-Trent transformed once again.
Rafferty’s have successfully completed a six figure contract on a 42m high multi flue steel chimney for the NHS at Royal South Hants Hospital.
The project was carried out over a 10 week period by Rafferty’s own team of specialist steeplejacks and qualified welders. The work carried out included the following;
– Installation of all specialised access equipment and scaffolding required to carry out the works in a safe manner.
– Structural overplating works to the chimney’s 6 No. flange connections.
– Repairs to 5 No. internal liners.
– Installation of new liner drainage system.
– Manufacture & installation of new access hatch.
– Re-painting the full height of the chimney windshield.
Rafferty Steeplejacks have successfully completed the dismantling of 2 No. 35.3m high multi flue steel chimneys for BAE Systems at their Radway Green site in Cheshire. The following photographs show various stages of the dismantling procedure.
Rafferty’s have recently completed the design, manufacture and installation of a new 50m high twin flue steel chimney in the West Midlands, UK.
Rafferty’s have successfully completed structural repair works to a 73.2m high steel chimney in the Northern Ireland.
A re-design and feasibility study of the structure was initially carried out which revealed that structural modifications and repairs were required to ensure the structural integrity of the chimney. This involved installing stiffening steelwork between the 20m and 24m level along with removing the existing helical strake wind stabilers and replacing them with a liquid filled stabilising damper system.
A team of 3 steeplejacks and welder platers successfully completed the project to the complete satisfaction of the client and without any disruption to the operating conditions of the chimney.

Rafferty’s have secured a sizable contract to carry out maintenance works on 2 No. 89m high twin flue steel chimneys and 1 No. 33m high multi flue steel chimney for a valued customer in London, UK.
The maintenance works are planned to start at the end of September and will require a specialised team of steeplejack operatives for a duration of nearly 8 weeks.
Rafferty’s have successfully completed structural modifications and repairs on a 37m high steel chimney for a valued client in the North West of England.
A re-design and feasibility study of the structure was initially carried out which revealed that modifications and repairs were required to ensure the structural integrity of the chimney. The modifications included removing the existing helical strake wind stabilisers and replacing them with a liquid filled stabilising damper system. Steel stiffening work was also carried out to an area of the chimney shell below roof level. Repair works included replacing areas of the internal gunite lining which had previously failed. A team of steeplejacks and welder platers successfully completed the project to the complete satisfaction of the client.

Following a re-design and feasibility study of the structure it was determined that the existing helical strake wind stabilisers should be removed and a new liquid filled stabilsing damper system be installed. Steel stiffening work is also required to areas of the chimney windshield where metal loss has previously occured.
The contract is expected to take approximately 4/5 weeks and will be undertaken by a team of 3 steeplejack operatives, two of which are fully coded welder platers.
Rafferty Steeplejacks have successfully completed inspection and maintenance works on the 2 No. multi flue steel chimneys at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. With only a handful of chimneys now left in Stoke-On-Trent, Rafferty’s were delighted to be rewarded with this local contract.
