LIGHTNING PROTECTION

Lightning is one of nature’s most powerful natural phenomenon’s. A lightning strike to a structure can result in serious destructive damage, fires, explosions and risk of electric shock, which presents a significant risk to life, operations and electronic systems.

Rafferty’s provide nationwide coverage for all services relating to lightning protection, priding ourselves on a professional and prompt service to our clients

The risks and ultimate effects of a lightning strike can be reduced by the installation of a lightning protection system designed in accordance with the latest BSEN 62305 Standard series. Our experienced and ATLAS accredited lightning protection designers will carry out a site survey and formulate a Risk Assessment to BSEN 62305-2 to enable a bespoke lightning protection system to be designed for any particular building or structure. Our NVQ qualified engineers then undertake all works associated with the site installation of the lightning protection system.

We provide safe, cost effective and high performance specialist earthing solutions which include Soil Resistivity Surveys to enable an effective earthing design and installation.

Annual testing, inspection and maintenance of a lightning protection system is generally a requirement of the building insurances and is crucial for ensuring that an existing lightning protection system remains in a serviceable condition, thus providing continued protection to the structure itself, along with the contents and occupants within.

Surge protective devices (SPDs) are an essential requirement for compliance with BSEN 62305. Surge Protection now forms an integral part of a lightning protection system installation and is predominantly designed to safeguard electrical systems and personnel from the danger of transient overvoltages caused by lightning. We are able to provide surge & transient overvoltage protection and technical support in the design and installation of the Surge Protection measures to reduce the risk of loss of life, damage and permanent failure of electrical systems/equipment.
